Alpharetta Branch Library
Alpharetta·All ages·Indoor·Free
Alpharetta Branch Library is a low-key indoor stop for storytime, browsing, and a change of scenery, with family programs like Storytime and Stay & Play running through the week. Friendly, helpful staff make families feel welcome. A calm little outing for days when leaving the house is the goal but making a whole day of it is not.

Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville
Gainesville·All ages·Outdoor
Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville is a smaller, quieter counterpart to the flagship Atlanta garden, with three short woodland trail loops, about a half-mile each, that are mostly shaded and easy for young walkers. The Lou Glenn Children's Garden here has play structures kids are allowed to climb on, unlike the rest of the garden where visitors are asked to stay off plantings. A nice choice for moving little legs while giving grown-up brains a bit of breathing room.

Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center
Johns Creek·Ages 3 and up·Outdoor·Free
Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center is a hands-on nature and history stop in Johns Creek. Kids can feed the goats, chickens, and ducks daily, check out animal exhibits inside the Visitor Center, and wade in the creek along the trail. A cell-phone audio tour walks families through the Heritage Village buildings at their own pace. This is a good one for getting outside without turning the walk into a major expedition.
