The Georgia Mountain Coaster runs gravity carts down the hillside right in downtown Helen, and it works for surprisingly young kids: anyone 38 inches and at least 3 years old can ride in a two-seat cart with a parent driving. Solo driving starts at 54 inches, which older kids treat as a rite of passage. Weekday visits mean much shorter waits than weekends or fall color season, when lines can run 30-50 minutes, and since purses, backpacks, and water bottles aren't allowed in the cart, plan to leave them in the car or use an on-site locker. A useful answer to the daily question: where can they run around that is not the living room?

Woodmen of the World City Park

Woodmen of the World City Park in Cleveland has a playground with ADA-accessible equipment (including an adaptive swing), a small ball field, and a covered pavilion. The paved walking track is a good fit for strollers or bikes, and the pavilion's picnic tables give you a shade or rain-day backup. It's a flexible stop for when the family needs room to move without committing to a full-day outing. There is plenty here to keep bodies busy while grown-ups enjoy not being the entertainment committee.

Yonah Preserve Recreation Center, Splash Pad & Park

Yonah Preserve is the rare outing with a rain plan built right in: start outside at the playground and splash pad, then head into the recreation center when everyone needs shade or a change of pace. The recreation center opened in May 2025, so this is a newer facility and some details may still be settling in. Inside are two full-size basketball courts that can convert for volleyball and pickleball, plus concessions, a community room and a roomy covered porch. This one is pure kid joy, followed by the familiar towel-wrapping operation in the parking lot.
